A Dream Comes True!
Since the PT Cruiser first hit the magazines, my friend Cheryl wanted one. For four long years she has read up on them, designed her own version and longed for the day she could have her own.
Circumstances just didn't allow it to happen and she and her husband Carl drove an early Plymouth Voyager. It wasn't too bad, they also have a '96 Miata.
As Carl is fond of saying, "Timing is Everything". The timing was finally right in July of '05. Unfortunately, Cheryl's favorite color is no longer offered. I'll let you guess what that color is. They looked at used PT Cruisers and at new ones and decided that a new one was the way to go with the great incentives being offered.
Using a car broker and the internet, they located one equipted the way they wanted in a color they (actually, Cheryl) wanted. Now things are starting to move fast. The car they wanted was located in Colorado Springs and they live in Boulder. The agent arranged to have the car brought to a dealer in Loveland so it could be delivered in time for the weekend.
I was recruited to drive them to meet the broker at the dealer in Loveland. We arrived on time, but the car didn't. Phone calls revealed it was stuck in traffic on I-25, so we waited, and waited and waited. Finally, Carl spotted a dark blue PT Cruiser pull in the lot but something seemed wrong with it, no driver visible and it looked like it was about 8 feet tall. He wasn't expecting it to show up on a flat bed trailer! He just didn't see the trailer at first. We went out to have a look.
Carl and Cheryl having their first look and then Charley unloads it from the flatbed.
Then it is time for the paperwork. Both of them had to sign numerous papers.
Cheryl wanted a web pinstriped on parts of the car so Carl bought some pinstriping tape and they tried out several designs. These two pictures are what they settled on and took to the pinstriper. Slight changes were made and...
The finished pinstriping (at least for now). Even the dash panel got treated to some color. Have you guessed what Cheryl's favorite color is yet?
Future plans include having a dragonfly airbrushed onto the web and maybe a spider or two.
