Bought: Nov, 2007
So this is my 1976 Austin mini 1000. It is all stock except for some motor work and some new wheels and tires. I bought it from a gentleman in Canada last fall and picked it up this spring. Nothing but smiles ever since.
The motor is a 998cc A+ motor with a 12g202 head that has been reworked to 12g295 specs. It has a kent 256 cam, duplex timing chain and pertronix distibutor and coil. It also has a minispares stage 1 kit (intake and exhaust) and a K&N filter. I can't forget to mention that it does have the factory installed oil leak (it's small and will be taken care of this winter).
the first cosmetic change I made was to add some new tires and rims. The new ones are the same style as the ones that were on the car but with a charcoal center and a polished lip. The old ones were just painted grey. They are 10x5 superlite shod with Yokohama A008 165/70/10's.
The first show I took it to that had judging it won 3rd place for peoples choice. It's not 1st but at least it placed.
My plan is to just drive it every chance I get this summer and work on it over the winter. Some of the things I have planned are to do a few little things to the motor. Mainly a bigger carb and some more work to the head. I also plan to go thru the suspension, new bushings cones, hi-lo's, shocks etc. By the time all that is done it should be summer again.
So I already installed all the new bushings, cones, Hi-lo's and shocks. Also converted the front drum brakes to modified Honda disks.
Parked it in the shop for the winter where the motor is coming out for a quick once over and a new clutch, along with some more work to the head and the addition of a larger carb.
Also going to fix a very small rust spot on the drivers floor before it starts to grow.
Come spring it will be off to the dyno to dial everything in and then it will be time for another summer of driving fun.
